Home & Auto Insurance in Farmington, CT
Home, auto and everything else you own, insured by someone who reads the policy
Personal insurance is the coverage most people buy once, never look at again, and only understand after a claim. The Beam Agency writes home, auto, condo, renters, umbrella, boat and landlord policies for families in Farmington, West Hartford, Avon, Simsbury, Canton, Bristol, New Britain and the rest of Hartford County. Because we are independent, we compare your coverage across multiple carriers and tell you where the differences actually are.

What we cover
Homeowners insurance
Dwelling, other structures, personal property, liability and loss of use. The number that matters most is the dwelling limit, and it should reflect what it costs to rebuild your house in the Farmington Valley today, not what you paid for it. We check that, along with roof age, water backup, ordinance or law coverage and the deductible structure. Auto insurance
Connecticut’s minimum liability limits, $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for injuries and $25,000 for property damage, are low enough that a single serious accident can exceed them. We quote real limits, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage that matches them, and the right deductibles for the vehicle. Teen drivers, commuting into Hartford, and cars used for a side business all change the answer.
Condo and renters
A condo policy has to line up with the association’s master policy, which is different in almost every building in West Hartford Center or Avon. Renters insurance covers your belongings and your liability for roughly $15 to $30 a month, and many landlords in the area now require it.
Umbrella insurance
A personal umbrella adds $1 million or more of liability above your home and auto policies. If you own a home, have savings, have a teen driver or a dog, or rent out property, it is usually the best value on the list.
Boat and personal watercraft
Coverage for boats on Candlewood Lake, Bantam Lake, the Connecticut River or Long Island Sound, plus jet skis and the trailer that carries them. Do you need boat insurance in Connecticut?
Landlord and rental property
Dwelling fire policies for a two-family in New Britain, a rental condo in Farmington written as a rental, or a small portfolio of units. Different from homeowners coverage in ways that matter. Landlord insurance in Connecticut.
Motorcycle, RV and classic car
Specialty vehicles need specialty forms, agreed value coverage and often a different carrier than the one that writes your daily driver.
How we handle a personal quote
We start with what you have. Send us your current declarations pages and we will show you, line by line, where a new policy is better, where it is worse, and what it costs. Sometimes the answer is to stay where you are with a couple of changes. We will say so.
Bundling home and auto with one carrier usually saves money, but not always, and not always with the carrier you expect. That is the point of shopping it.

Questions we get every week
Does homeowners insurance cover flooding in Connecticut?
No. Standard homeowners policies exclude flood, including surface water from the Farmington River or a storm. Flood coverage comes through the National Flood Insurance Program or a private flood carrier, and we can quote either. Water backup from a sewer or sump is a separate endorsement that we recommend for almost every house with a basement.
How much liability coverage should I have on my auto policy?
More than the state minimum. We usually recommend limits of at least $250,000 per person and $500,000 per accident for households with a home or savings, paired with an umbrella. The difference in premium between minimum limits and real limits is often smaller than people expect.
Will my rate go up if I get a quote?
No. Getting a quote does not affect your existing policy or your credit. We only move you if it makes sense.
Do you write insurance outside the Farmington Valley?
Yes, anywhere in Connecticut. Most of our personal lines clients are in Hartford County.
